just got back from painstakingly hopping to and from the kitchen on one foot. why? my left foot hurts. why? well let’s start from the beginning.
- -please forgive the horrible flow of this entry. i had to retype it because tumblr lost the original. and it’s difficult for me to express myself as fluidly the second time around, after the thoughts have already been released from my mind. nah mean??- -
early one morning, when i woke up in the wee hours of the morning much like many mornings prior, i decided to walk to the nearby park. tianmu gongyuan it is called, and beautiful it was. such a tropical gem. looking towards the skies, luscious green tops of tropical trees cover almost every square inch of the park, their leaves dripping with morning dew. looking down, the pavement changes by the meter, keeping you on your toes at all times. one second it’s slippery wet tiles, the next it’s round stepping stones amongst grass leading to a strip of pebbled path meant for foot massaging.
multiple taichi groups are practicing throughout the park, the participants of which are old grampas and grammas who you wouldnt even expect to be able to walk. some of them are using the colorful gym equipment, hanging by their knees upside down on the monkey bars. true story! the youngest person there aside from myself was easily double my age. i venture over to the leg swinger contraption and find it more difficult to operate than the 50 year old man who had just finished with it had made it seem. basically you stand on it and it swings your legs like you’re walking, but it swings so freely that to control the momentum of your swing you have to make sure each leg simultaneously yet oppositely exerts the same amount of energy….
from this spontaneous morning rendezvous i lost a $1000 bill, almost lost my california driver’s license but noticed it creeping out of my sock in time, gained beautiful mental snapshots of this beautiful island, insight into taiwanese geriatric culture, and 5 mosquito bites, two of which are more lethal than the others. alternatively, i could be allergic to mosquitos bites like some people are allergic to bee stings. these two death bites cause my blood to congregate in the surrounding area for miles and miles. one is on my left ankle, hence, it hurts to put my foot down (blood rushes down to the bite swell region), much less stand up (even more blood rushing down!), much much more less to put weight on it (this causes a sharp shooting pain!!). end explanatory story.
apart from the monetary loss and insect encounters, the park was truly tropically wondrously humidly greenly naturally beautiful and if my foot gets better tomorrow i plan to return in the morning with my camera (so i can share the beauty with ya’ll without subjecting you to my horrible descriptive skills) and a can of bug repellant.
