i suppose now would be a good time to start my taiwan blog. i’m studying abroad through UCLA’s EAP program at NTU (National Taiwan University) in Taipei, Taiwan. i don’t usually publicize blogs about the nitty-gritties of my daily life b/c i think they can tend to be boring, but i want to keep the memory of the next 4 months forever engrained in the kernels of the internet/my mind. (and it would make my life easier if i could share my stories with friends without having to repeat myself multiple times)
so! the plane ride was alright, the young girl behind me kept kicking my seat and put her stinky feet on my arm rest… but it’s all good. i think you would be proud of my 13 hour patience maylin. my seat partner was a 16 year old nicaraguan boy who’s going to NTNU (another taipei university) to study chinese and medicine. 8 freakin years!!!! and this kid is 16, younger than dana,… yet is as mature as a 20+ year old.
i woke up 20 minutes ago in a pitch black room unsure of the time. i checked the bedside table and the clock was dead. it felt like the apocalypse (now!! -muse) because i had no idea where (felt foreign at least) and when in time and space i was. basically everything about this trip feels surreal: that i’m here, that i’m here for 4 months, that i’m supposed to make a life here.. anyway i decided to sign onto gchat and ask pickles for the LA time, then did the conversion.. 5am. pretty good jetlag i’d say, if i knocked out at midnight and woke up at 5am. the sun is slowly rising now. if i knew this place better i’d go for a nice morning walk. but with all the smog and humidity and heat, it probably wouldn’t be very refreshing at all.
today my aunt plans to take me to MOS burger (ABSOLUTELY DELISH, will post pics later), get a SIM card for my cell phone, an ethernet cable for my lappy, and who knows what else. these errands will be accomplished using a motorized scooter as transportation so who knows what little adventures will present themselves on our way to and from our destinations. i just hope i don’t give her moped a flat =p
